The Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA) is a membership organisation which provides quality services and leadership relevant to the needs of member councils. Employing approximately 80 staff, the LGA is recognised as the peak representative body for local government in the state and provides leadership to councils and representation outwards to state and federal governments and other key stakeholders. 


Key to the ongoing success of the association is good communication and access to a robust and stable telephone system. Following an internal project to relocate staff to new desks, the IT team were faced with numerous failures relating to their existing Cisco handsets. 


As handsets were expensive to replace and could only be sourced from the second hand or reconditioned market, often without warranty, they thought it prudent to investigate replacing the phone system. 

Subnet, one of the LGA's existing ICT suppliers was asked to provide guidance on a suitable replacement. 

The Subnet Solution:

Subnet recommended a dynamic and scalable 3CX solution to support the LGA's business requirements. The LGA were utilising a 7 year old Cisco Unified Communication System, which ultimately presented significant challenges in supporting the business's telephony needs. Additionally, it was outside of mainstream support by Cisco. 


3CX rids the PBX from the office and desktop environments, delivering Unified Communication features like voice and video conferencing and more. The easy to use integrated video conferencing solution enables businesses to save time and money by hosting virtual meetings and webinars, while enjoying the benefits of face-to-face communication. Given the nature of the LGA's work, this feature proved to be a great value add.

The new 3CX system has provided the LGA with:
